“Obscure Origins” an exhibition of works by Brooklyn based artist Kajahl will run through June 18, 2017 at Tillou Fine Art, New York.

The selection of works on display features paintings and studies by the artist. The show is a focused survey of the artist’s portraits, which combine iconography from African, Asian, European, and Pre-Columbian traditions. This fusion of such symbols results in the creation of artworks that depict the forgotten past and reanimate the minor artifacts of history into a transformative collection. Kajahl draws his inspiration from visiting historic sites, mining archives, books, museums and the internet. The artist then uses these resources to create new iconographic mythologies and narratives resulting in the birth of hybrid entities that are then transformed into grandiose figures.
