Stop & Stare is an exhibition that asks the viewer to leave their perceived realities at the door, inviting them to experience the feeling one’s left with after witnessing a particularly seamless magic trick, a feeling that leaves one both disoriented and comforted in the “un-knowing” of how much distance lies between truth and perception. It is my belief that your remarkable talents and unique artistic vision is key to evoking this captivating experience.

The aim of Stop & Stare is to create an environment where the audience are invoked by the illusion, not just observers but active participants in a shared journey of perception and interpretation, in hopes the viewer’s mind is challenged and expanded by realizations that what they’re looking at is more profound than what can be revealed through first glance. Diversity in materiality is an essential component for achieving this, due to subtler questions it can raise about the lived histories, purported functions (or lack thereof), and aesthetic sensibilities of fine art.

UTA Artist Space and myself are dedicated to providing all artists with comprehensive support in terms of marketing, logistics, and promotion, to ensure your participation is as seamless and rewarding as possible. Other participating artists in Stop & Stare include Yashua Klos, Kenturah Davis, Vanessa German, and Derek Fordjour.
