Chicago-based artist Caroline Kent uses abstraction to engage the visual and encoded properties of language. Holding space within a single plane, repeated in different materials, or forming a secret, shared communication, Kent’s works unfold through the experience of translation, as an exercise to discover what can be gained over what is lost in the shift from one form, or language, to another.

Bringing together paintings, wall sculptures, and works on paper representing key themes and approaches from Caroline Kent’s practice from 2018-present, Kindred highlights recent examples of Kent’s work that lean into double, or twin, or paired forms.
