Anna Plesset’s research-oriented practice—spanning painting, sculpture and drawing— is concerned with the cultural and psychological processes by which knowledge is erased, translated and retold. Plesset’s individual bodies of work function as multi-chapter thesis that examine the construction of history, knowledge and memory, examining the roles of gender and hierarchies of visual culture, especially narratives that have been formerly overlooked or siloed. In her recent work, Plesset draws on her astute use of illusionistic trompe l’oeil painting techniques to represent quotidian objects, and lost art histories.
