Gregory Byungho Bae (b. 1986, Salt Lake City, UT) was a Korean American artist in Chicago. He received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2007, and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. He lived and worked in Chicago for 11 years, where he became a beloved member of the city’s art community. In graduate school Bae was known for his sweeping painting installations, as well as his intellectual engagement with the history of painting and visuality. He later expanded his practice to include large-scale sculpture, drawing, photography, complex machines, and film. An active member of the Chicago art community, Bae was the founder and director of Chicago API Artists United (CAAU), and was a co-founder and curator of Bill’s Auto starting in 2018. He was also a lecturer and professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
